Using all-electric vehicles is something unavoidable for cities and towns that wish to implement a sustainable mean of transport, with a low environmental impact too.
This fact raises new challenges for the industry of HVAC systems design and manufacturing, as the extinction of combustion engine in the vehicle eliminates the source of driving power for compressors as well as the heat generation.
Going ahead this unstoppable tendency, Hispacold has developed an alternative technology in order to provide effective solutions for a more efficient air conditioning inside electrical vehicles, as power consumption inside them is a very relevant issue.ç
i2e climatization, first urban bus, all-electric by Irizar
Hispacold's Innovation department started in 2012 to work on a project aimed, on one hand, to develop an efficient HVAC system control with variable capacity, able to achieve different ranges of capacity according to different environment conditions, and,on the other hand, to develop a HVAC system incorporating a new reverse cycle system of high performance.
The project's outcome has been a new HVAC electrical system of double circuit with a heat pump, with a control system of variable capacity that allows achieving a more efficient air conditioning inside electrical vehicles, as inside them power consumption is a very important issue.
In 2012 the specifications of the equipments and systems of the whole solution were set, through 2013 the HVAC system design and prototype's manufacture were carried out and also in 2013 the testing phase started at our laboratory in order to guarantee that all specifications were met.
The excellent outcomes from the team at the test phase in our laboratory make it deserve to be the core of the i2e HVAC system, the first all-electric urban bus made by Irizar, developed with technology of our own.
There are already two Irizar i2e vehicles running in Barcelona, plus another one in San Sebastian, and their wonderful use results allow us to state that we have a bus of European technology, highly reliable, totally prepared to run on cities, with a plus of zero emissions.
Electric Systems of Hispacold at the European Market
Nine trolley buses move around the Italian city of Parma equipped with Hispacold electric HVAC systems. In this case, the challenge was to produce a new electric HVAC system, small and compact at the same time, fit to be installed in small-sized vehicles.
30 of Van Hool vehicles have been also climatized with our electrical HVAC systems: 27 units work in Metz (France) and the other three in Barcelona (Spain).
